Hinged Patio Doors
Comprised of panels with large glazing areas, hinged patio doors can swing in or swing out depending on their construction. An in-swing panel has interior-mounted hinges and, if equipped with an insect screen, hangs inside its screen. The out-swing door has tamper-proof exterior hinges, and its screen is on the structure’s interior, and typically of the vertical cannister roll-across type. If paired with a stationary panel, the hinged panel will be hinged either in the center, or at either jamb (side). If the stationary panel operates, it is no longer considered stationary, but instead passive, with the active door being postioned for primary pedestrian use. Exotic systems may employ panels that hinge to be folded into wall pockets so as to be hidden when open, or that hinge with a bi-fold stacking design, where open door panels are half in and half out of the building, or all in or out. That about covers it: if you can imagine it, and afford it, the versatile hinged patio door system can be built to your specifications.
