Bow & Bay Windows
A bay window features a center window with two angled windows flanking it. Custom-built units can incorporate any angle to 90 degrees, but standard angles offerings typically are 30, 45, or 90 degrees. A box bay is another term for a 90 degree bay. It will have a roof, and is to be distinguished from the garden window, which usually has glazing over the top, a see-through roof if you will. A bow window is built in a gentle arc with windows equal in width. Bays and bows can be built to very large widths, and properly supported from roof eaves, will require no knee bracing underneath. Always inquire about insulation in your new bay or bow – at top and bottom.
